"SLAM DUNK"
FEATURING
IRON HORSE • JARVIS • SILVER OAK
And Introducing... SIBYL & SIMUNYE

We don't have Shaquille O'Neal, but we do have a dynamic team of wineries who can garner high scores and winning combinations like our championship Lakers. So, please join us on Thursday, August 3, 2000, for a "SLAM DUNK" exhibition of wines and guests from three outstanding veteran wineries in California and two exciting rookies of exotic origins. Focusing on the grape from the vineyard through the winemaking process to the final product, our talented panel of guests for this unique seminar will include FORREST TANCER of IRON HORSE, DENISE HAMMERBERG of JARVIS, SUSAN CANNON of SILVER OAK and PHIL FREESE of SIBYL and SIMUNYE.

IRON HORSE VINEYARDS, situated at the far western edge of Sonoma County's lovely Green Valley, is owned by the personable and hospitable Sterling Family and produces an outstanding array of world-class wines from beautiful sparklers to a myriad of notable prime varietals. We are always delighted to welcome back talented and creative Partner/Winemaker Forrest Tancer, whose vast knowledge of vineyards and winemaking will both educate and entertain us. Many of the grapes that go into the Iron Horse wines are grown on Forrest's own spectacular T-Bar-T Ranch. In addition to his roster of super regulars. Forrest will bring us a pre-release showing of his upcoming superstar "Benchmark," a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. We've tasted it and it's dynamite!!!

JARVIS, located four miles east of the town of Napa, is a magnificent winemaking facility totally contained within 45,000 square feet of cave tunneled into the Vacas Mountains. Owners William and Leticia Jarvis created a technical and visual masterpiece using the rugged, rocky site, natural underground water and a parabolic structure. Working with grapes from their own outstanding vineyards, their world-class winemaker Dimitri Tchelistcheff (son of Andre Tchelistcheff) produces absolutely superb wines of richness, balance, elegance, approachability and great aging potential. Charming National Sales and Marketing Manager Denise Hammerberg will return for her second visit to bring us three major players from Jarvis.

SILVER OAK CELLARS, founded by winegrower Justin Meyer, has two training camps: one in the Oakville area of Napa Valley and one in the Alexander Valley of Sonoma County. Known for close to 30 years for producing outstanding and highly coveted Cabernet Sauvignons, Silver Oak's two gems have been dubbed "America's wines." We presented their 1995 Napa Valley release earlier this year and we are pleased to welcome back their lovely and knowledgeable Southern California Sales Director Susan Cannon to present their superb 1996 Alexander Valley edition.

SIBYL and SIMUNYE are the exciting new projects of husband-and-wife team Zelma Long and Phil Freese. Zelma, as many of you know, is a partner in Long Vineyards and recently retired as President of Simi Winery. Her winemaking prowess is remarkable, with history going back to working with Mike Grgich at Robert Mondavi Winery in the early 1970s. Phil, has an equally impressive history of vineyard consulting for many wineries and is considered one of the world's foremost authorities on viticulture. Always looking for new adventures, Zelma and Phil have formed partnerships in two foreign climes: Sibyl is from the Nahe Valley just off the middle of the Rhine River in Germany! Along with partner Monika Christmann (Germany's foremost wine educator), they have produced a delicious, rich dry Riesling. Simunye (pronounced See-moon-yea) is from the Western Cape area of South Africa! With partner Michael Back (third generation owner of Backsberg Winery), they have purchased land and planted red varietals, but their first release is a mountainside Sauvignon Blanc grown in the Stellenbosch region. We are absolutely thrilled to have Phil join us as we debut both of these promising new rookies.
