Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon

We here at the Duke are truly excited to bring you the incredible 2006 Leviathan. Remember the name - Leviathan - as you will be hearing about it for years to come, mostly in connection with the words cult wine.

Leviathan is a personal project that comes from the husband/wife winemaking team of Andy Erickson and Annie Favia. You may have heard of some of the wineries that Andy includes on his impressive winemaking resume: Staglin Family Vineyard (Napa Valley), Jonata (Santa Ynez Valley), Hartwell Vineyards (Napa Valley), Arietta (Napa Valley) and Screaming Eagle (Napa Valley). Annie's strengths lie in viticulture. She oversees the vineyards for the well-known Abreu (Napa Valley) and Screaming Eagle (Napa Valley). She has also managed some of the highest caliber vineyards in the world, including Harlan Estate, Spottswoode, Araujo, Colgin, Staglin, Bressler and Pahlmeyer. These two extraordinary individuals have skills and abilities far beyond those of mere mortals!

To scramble an old saying, the proof of the pudding is in the sipping. Try the 2006 Leviathan - a blend of 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 21% Syrah and 7% Cabernet Franc. Those are the figures they gave us and we decided to scramble another old saying - the taste of the whole is greater than the sum of its parts! That 101% of the parts yields 200% of flavor - we don't know how, but it does. The wine is as complex and powerful as the blend of grapes at its core. The aroma greets the taster with fresh-baked black cherry pie coupled with coffee bean and smokiness. On the palate, an entry of soft tannin leads to intense flavors of dark chocolate, raspberries, caramel, plums and cherries. The dark fruit and mouthwatering acidity on the finish is long and satisfying. There is very little oak used in producing this wine. It is made to be drunk in the short term, although it will continue to improve gracefully for years in your cellar, if you can resist temptation that long.

The Duke has a limited supply of 2006 Leviathan available at $47.99 per bottle. Also available by the 6-pack.

Here's one for all the hedonists out there!
