Walter Hansel 2006 Chardonnay, Cahill Lane
Robert Parker awarded this terrific Chardonnay 94 points. His notes: "The light gold-colored 2006 Chardonnay Cahill Lane exhibits a steely, stony nose intermixed with peach, pear, and brioche notes. It is medium to full-bodied, has terrific up-front fruit, decent acidity, and a plump, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel. This is the most concentrated of the first three Chardonnays, but seems to be on a faster evolutionary track than any of the 2005s.

A terrific source of sensational Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays made very much in the style of the wines proprietor Stephen Hansel loves the most, white and red Burgundies, this 80-acre estate continues to build on a brilliant track record of high quality wines offered to consumers at sensationally fair prices."

The Duke has this beauty for $35.99 per bottle. A fair price indeed! Hint: When you call, be sure to inquire about the Pinot Noirs we have available from Hansel!

Quixote 2004 Petite Syrah - Extra special!
Carl Doumani, founder of Stags' Leap Winery in the early 1970s, has a new project on his Stags' Leap Ranch using organically grown grapes to produce a top-notch Petite Syrah. This is a rich, ripe wine with a texture as voluptuous as it is viscous. It is dense purple in color, offering complex spice and dark fruit aromatics. Well-layered with intense blackberry and dark fruit characteristics, the flavors linger on the finish, working in concert with the kind of earthiness typical of Stags' Leap Ranch fruit. It's soft enough to drink now, but has the structure for aging at least another decade. Duke's price - $59.99 per bottle.

Hudson Vineyards 2005 Chardonnay - RP 90
The 2005 vintage featured low yields, but, in the case of Hudson Vineyards Chardonnay, that small crop made for mouth-filling wines. Exhibiting vibrant green and gold hues in the glass, this 2005 Chardonnay is explosive with aromas of roasted hazelnuts, nectarines, almonds and roasted sweet corn. The wine has a long silky finish with high acidity which binds the flavors together with hints of minerality. Simply wonderful wine! Exactly what to expect with John Kongsgaard as consulting winemaker.Duke's price $59.99 each Note: This wine is Sold Out at the winery!

Hudson Vineyards 2005 Syrah - Duke rates it 97/100 points
The 2005 Hudson Syrah was produced from Lucille's Vineyard at Hudson Vineyards from a heritage selection clone planted by John Alban, one of the original Rhone Rangers. John Kongsgaard is the consulting winemaker, so you know that this has the pedigree of a great wine!! The wine is a glass-filler, a dark ruby purple with crimson edges. The nose is an expression of boysenberries, mocha, anise and roasted nut countered by the gaminess typical of Syrah. The palate shows an intensity of crushed black plums, blackberries and cola. The acidity is vibrant and fresh, with slightly woody notes keeping the flavors moving across the palate, adding structure. A chewy finish of roasted fruit, nuts and anise completes the wine. Sensational! Duke's price - $89. 99 per bottle. Note: Sold Out at the winery.

Jaffe Estate 2005 Metamorphosis - Super Special
The vines that produce Jaffe Estate wines grow right alongside the only private research-grade observatory in the Napa Valley. Grapes and stars converge at Jaffe Estate to create wines of impeccable balance. Metamorphosis, an estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, is made in a style modeled on legendary Andre Tchelistcheff's creations. Balance is the key and Metamorphosis and its sister Transformation (more later) are both elegantly balanced. Aromas of black currant and powdery tannins deliver the "big" taste of young Cabernet now, while promising a long and rewarding cellar life. A focused entry of Bing cherry, raspberry and red currant carries through to the lively and textured finish, picking up savory hints of spice and toast from the French oak along the way. Duke's price - $58.00 per bottle.

Jaffe Estate 2006 Transformation - Wow!!
Opulence and texture is the theme for this wine. The 2006 Transformation opens with the generous aromas of blackberry bramble and chocolate. The texture makes an immediate impression with the broad and supple tannins extending from the entry to the finish. Yet, this wine retains a youthful edge that promises longevity. The Merlot (45%) currently dominates within this blend with a very rich sensation at the mid-palate. The chocolate-coated cherry flavor that is classic for the ripe Merlot of Napa is balanced in this blend with the crisp, red currant and raspberry of the Cabernet Sauvignon. The finish is extended with the warmth of cocoa and vanilla. The result is is a big wine that will impress with its accessibility.Duke's price - $58.00 per bottle. As an interesting sidenote, one of the Duke's friends recently hosted a private tasting for some of his wine-knowledgeable friends featuring well-known California red wines. He reported to us the next day that Transformation was considered to be the best of the evening!

Note: Prices are good while our supplies last and we reserve the right to change them at any time without notice.

Summer heat can damage your wine! The Duke does not recommend out-of-state ground shipments during the summer months. If you're unable to pick up your order, we will gladly hold it here until cooler weather. If you would like your wine right away, we will be happy to ship by air - overnight or 2 - or 3 - day service.
