Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon
Our marketing research shows us that wine lovers are trending to lower priced wines in these trying economic times. The Duke has always been attuned to finding wines with the high QPR our customers desire. (If we have to spell it out - high quality-to-price ratio.) Some of the best values have been coming from Spain, especially from importer Jorge Ordonez. Check out the two we have for you today!
Bodegas Atalaya 2007 Atalaya This Spanish beauty has just popped onto the scene and, "Wow! What a pop!" We were fortunate enough to have a chance to taste it last week and signed on immediately. The words "refined" or "elegant" appeared in each of our tasting notes. We knew we were on to something special. Then we checked Parker's rating (91 points) and read his quote: "This is the first release of Atalaya. The 2007 Atalaya is a blend of Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, and other red grapes. The wine was aged for eight months in French and American oak. This purple-colored wine has an expressive bouquet of violets, spice box, leather, game, blueberry, and black cherry. On the palate it comes off as borderline kinky and definitely sexy with lots of easy-going flavor, superb depth, complexity, and a 45-second finish. Although it can be enjoyed now, it will evolve for another 2-3 years."This wine is a bargain at the regular list price of $19.50 and will fly out the door at the Duke's special price of $16.99 per bottle. Buy 6 or more and save-a-buck-a-bottle, just $15.99 per bottle.
Bodegas Luzon 2005 Altos de Luzon We tasted this one again last week and welcomed the reminder of its QPR. Our tasting notes had comments like: "smooooth;" "luscious tannins;" "loads of fruit;" and "wonderful spice notes." Checking in on Parker's comments: "The 2005 Altos de Luzon is 50% old-vine Monastrell, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Tempranillo (not commonly seen in Jumilla). It was barrel fermented in new French and American oak where it remained for 12 months. Dark ruby-colored, it offers up an enticing perfume of mineral, garrigue, blueberry, and blackberry. Layered and ripe with enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years, this pleasing effort can be enjoyed now and over the next 8-10 years." Think about it: a wine at this price with the substance to age for a decade! We don't think it will last that long. We know most of our customers' taste buds won't let them keep their hands out of the cellar for 10 years! Also list priced at $19.50, the Duke's special price is $16.99 each. The 6-or-more price is the same as Atalaya, $15.99 each. In fact, mix or match these two values to reach the discount. Not surprisingly, we showed these two sensational wines to a local country club. They immediately picked them to pair with a wine dinner for their members.
Note: Prices are good while our supplies last and we reserve the right to change them at any time without notice.
