Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon

The fabulous Orin Swift 2006 Papillon Napa Valley Red Wine has arrived. Orin Swift wines are always outstanding go-to wines that we love to share with all of you. This is the second release of the Papillon and we feel that owner/winemaker David Phinney has blasted another home run!

While not as overpowering as the 2005, the 2006 Papillon displays rich, wonderful fruit with mouth-watering tannins that stay put on your palate for almost 30 seconds! It is a delicious blend of Bordeaux varieties: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. This is a blockbuster wine that would complement any steak dinner -- or it could, on its own, make the dinner unnecessary.

Duke's price is $55.00. Six packs are $330.00.

Mercury Head, Too!

We recently told you about Orin Swift's 2006 Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon and several of their other gems. The following is a repeat of our very successful offering.

The Duke is pleased to offer Dave Phinny's sixth vintage of the sensational Orin Swift Cellars Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon. This 2006 Mercury Head is a stunner, to say the least. Those of you who have tasted previous vintages of Mercury Head should not need to be reminded of how truly great the wine is. The color is deep purple, almost black, with the aroma of wild berry. It is drinking quite well right now, but could benefit from short-term cellaring from six months to as long as ten years.

The name Mercury Head refers to the Liberty dime from Dave Phinney's extensive coin collection that is embedded on the bottle. What a handsome Package!

Phinney is an extraordinary winemaker who is quick to give credit to his growers:

"The truth is - Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the easier varieties to grow as well as make. The old saying, "great Cabernet Sauvignon makes itself," is really true. You've got to start with the grapes though. We are blessed to buy Cabernet from a handful of great people who are also great farmers who farm great vineyards. So this year, I'll leave out the adjectives and descriptors and thank a couple of those growers by name. I've learned a lot from these guys, and I'm proud to count them as friends.
  • Thanks, Gary! (Gary Morisoli - Morisoli Vineyard, Rutherford)
  • Thanks, Doug! (Doug Wight - Taplin/Lewelling, St. Helena)

The 2006 Mercury Head is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and entirely from these two vineyard sites.
"

The Duke has this very limited gem for you priced at $75.00 per bottle or, $450.00 per six-pack. Try all four of Dave Phinney's fabulous wines, three each of 2006 Mercury Head, 2006 Papillon, 2007 Saldo and 2007 The Prisoner, for $579.00 for the 12-pack! You won't be sorry.

Note: Prices are good while our supplies last and we reserve the right to change them at any time without notice.
