Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon

We are pleased to offer the superb 2006 wines from Dalla Valle Vineyards. Always highly popular and in limited-production, we are lucky to be one of the few selected retailers to carry these beauties. Following are some tasting notes from the winery and the Wine Spectator:

Dalla Valle 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon winery notes: "Our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc, provides immediate gratification. A late spring and long, relatively mild growing season produced fruit with great balance, bright, forward aromatics, and mouth-watering juiciness. The wine has a deep garnet color, and reveals aromas of freshly-picked blueberries, cream, black currant, nutmeg, and smoke. A brambly, wild berry character rushes to the palate, leading to deeper notes of anise, wet stones, pencil lead and ripe, black fruits. Firmly built, the tannins are full but fine-grained, making the wine accessible in its youth and it will improve over the next 7 to 10 years at a minimum. 400 cases produced. "

Dalla Valle 2006 Maya winery notes: "Maya, a blend of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes from our estate Maya's Vineyards, is a seamless expression of this unique terroir. The 2006 offering is rich and powerful, with a deep, brilliant purple color and marked opacity. Aromatically, the wine is very expressive, showing notes of blackberry, violet, chocolate, and spices. In short, the wine has an intense perfume quality. These aromas translate directly to the palate, with a burst of flavor that expands to include flavors of raspberry, licorice, cardamom, clove, pan d'epice and clay. There is significant tannin and density that should allow the wine to age for quite some time. For drinking now, the wine is weighty and unctuous after a brief decanting, revealing the lush, velvety character that the wine should express in the coming years. 300 cases produced. "

Wine Spectator's Jim Laube said this about Dalla Valle 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon: "Starts rich, smooth and savory, with a medley of tight currant, black cherry and blackberry fruit. Full-bodied, structured and balanced, this gains depth and complexity on the finish, ending with anise and vanilla." Score 91 points. And this about Maya: "Tight, firm and structured, with a rich, focused beam of blackberry, black cherry, currant, herb and anise. Full-bodied, intense and concentrated, this unfolds slowly and enticingly to reveal extra dimensions of complexity and nuance, getting better with every sip. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc ." Score 95 points.
