Are you ready for the last big bowl of the year? In the spirit of the football play-off season and the Super Bowl, we will kick off
"WINE BOWL 2009" at the Warner Center Marriott Indoor Stadium on
Thursday, February 12, 2009.
Joining us for this championship event will be an amazing team of all-star wines from the formidable franchises of
FOXEN, TRIVIUM, and DUCKHORN WINE COMPANY. They are certain to run up high scores when led by outstanding coaches
JENNY DORÉ of Foxen, JACK STUART of Trivium, and
BILL NANCARROW of Duckhorn Wine Company.
The DUKE (David Breitstein) will be our All-Star Referee. Since there will be no defense, everyone - players, coaches and spectators - are sure bets to be big winners.
We will begin the action with a
Pre-game Warm-up Walk-around Tasting featuring some exceptional, reasonably priced, everyday-drinking wines (including the new Phelps 2006 Innisfree and other surprises). Then, we promise to tackle your taste buds with the big game line-up: exciting Foxen
Fullback Futures (including Sea Smoke Pinot Noir) plus special appearances by Cuvée Jeanne-Marie (a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre) and Range 30 West (a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot from the Happy Canyon appellation); a
Full Field of Star Offense Players from Duckhorn Wine Company (including the
Southern California premieres of Goldeneye Pinot Noir and Migration); and the
Rookie Appearance by Trivium's elegant new Cabernet Sauvignon.
Our coaches definitely deserve special recognition for their accomplishments.
Jenny Doré and her husband Dick are the proprietors of
Foxen along with Bill & Becky Wathen. They train their wines in the Central Coast area of the Santa Ynez Valley and their fame is widespread for producing outstanding Pinot Noirs. Foxen is the only winery other than Sea Smoke itself to be allowed to produce a wine from the Sea Smoke Pinot Noir grapes and the
Duke is the only retailer with Foxen Sea Smoke Futures! The other Foxen wines also perform extremely well.
Jack Stuart was the founding winemaker and general manager at Silverado Vineyards in Napa Valley for approximately 25 years. After retiring from Silverado, he formed a partnership with Stuart Harrison (a marketing expert who previously worked at Domaine Chandon, Opus One, and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars), and Doug Wight (a respected viticulturist and fifth-generation Napa Valley grape grower). Thus, the name of their wine venture,
Trivium, with these three wine-industry veterans joining forces to bring us their well-nurtured, classic Cabernet Sauvignon.
Bill Nancarrow is the Executive Winemaker of
Duckhorn Wine Company. He hails from Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, and joined the Duckhorn team in 2001. He is a gifted and passionate winemaker who inspires his players to perform like champions. His talented team includes Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, Pinot Noirs, Sauvignon Blancs, Zinfandel blends, and Bordeaux blends.
