93 Points by James Suckling:
Located in the northern part of the Graves region (formerly Hautes Graves), the Pessac-Léognan area is a communal appellation that was created in 1987. Its terroir is somewhat unusual, consisting of gravelly hilltops and pebble-covered slopes. The wines' reputation was already well-established at the time of the 1855 classification, when Haut-Brion joined the rarefied ranks of the premier cru category, otherwise dominated by châteaux in the Médoc.
