We’ve featured the Wagner family before, and for good reason: each member of the family seems capable of making a great wine...
...whether it’s Chuck at Caymus or his children Jenny and Charlie at Emmolo and Mer Soleil respectively, the apples fell very close to the tree!
As summer starts to heat up, now is the perfect time to try this amazing (and refreshing) chardonnay!
Mer Soleil began in 1988 when Chuck Wagner planted Chardonnay vines in the Santa Lucia Highlands in Sonoma. What began as a few vines expanded to a few acres; the first vintage of Mer Soleil was released in 1995 (the name is French for “sea sun”). The grapes they used were chosen for their low yield and high quality. Mer Soleil currently produces two Chardonnays: The Reserve, which is aged in French oak for 12-15 months prior to bottling, and the Silver, so called because it is aged in steel rather than oak.
“We drink bad wine so you don’t have to” is our unofficial slogan here at Duke of Bourbon, but it pleases us to no end to say that this wine is absolutely great, with absolutely great price points. Discover the Wagner family of wines today!
Cheers and Bon Appetit!

"Golden-hued in color, the wine opens with opulent aromas of peach, apple, Meyer lemon and baking spices. The palate is an inviting medley of peach and D’Anjou pear; layered with tropical notes of pineapple and banana. The vibrant acidity is well balanced by warm butterscotch and subtle coconut notes that seamlessly meld together to create a luscious, mouth-filling richness. It is medium to full-bodied with a refreshing burst of minerality and well-integrated oak characteristics that offer a round, lengthy finish."
