Petrus 1988 Bordeaux Pomerol PREORDER ONLY WINERY DIRECT 5 Days

Our Rating: 100 Pts.:

Although uncooked vintage, like all the great wines of Pomerol, Petrus in Bordeaux is the most famous but also the most prestigious of all the red wines. The legend begins at the end of the 19th century. The Arnaud family owns the estate, and already enjoys a notoriety that will never falter later. Edmonde Loubat gradually bought the shares of the Civil Society of the Château Petrus from 1925 to become the sole owner in 1945. Dynamic and conscious of the exceptional potential of this "small" vineyard (approximately 6ha - 11,5 Ha, after the purchase of a plot of land at the Château Gazin), it found an ideal complement in 1947 in the person of Jean-Pierre Moueix, a Libourne merchant from a Corrézienne family. Vintage after vintage, the fame of the domain grows. 750 ML

Details

This wine has become increasingly herbaceous with the tannins pushing through the fruit and becoming more aggressive. The wine started off life impressively deep ruby/purple but is now showing some amber at the edge. It is a medium-bodied, rather elegant style of Petrus with a distinctive cedary, almost celery component intermixed with a hint of caramel and sweet mulberry and black cherry fruit. It has aged far less evenly than I would have thought and is probably best drunk over the next 8-10 years.
