Sika 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley

Sika 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley

If you love Silver Oak Alexander Valley,

You willl love this wine even more!

Our Impressions:

Few weeks back, we received a phone call from a winemaker/winery owner wanted to reserve a table for four people for lunch, what a surprise for us! His name: Paris Driggers. Paris spent all afternoon presenting his wines to few brokers. At the end of the day, he left me this 2013 Sika Cabernet Sauvignon, mentioning it was a declassified Silver Oak. I thank him as we always thrive to try new wines to discover new gems!

Our surprise was complete when we tried this wine! This wine drink very well even without any decanting and had the complexity of the Silver Oak without having the high price for such Cabernet.

The nose is strong full of several essences and aromas from coffee to dark berries. The palate reveals beautiful structure and tannins with lingering flavors of blackcurrant, licorice and smoked leather!

This wine is a great discovery and will have it place in your cellar or on your table! Ribeye would be a perfect pairing for this beautiful strong and smooth Cabernet.

Cheers and Bon Appetit!

Wine Advocate, Robert Parker, Notes on 2013 Vintage:

"Napa Valley and virtually all of the North Coast of California (which obviously includes Sonoma and Mendocino Counties as well) has been on a qualitative tear since 2012. 2012 was a great vintage for nearly every varietal in North Coast California, but what is even more remarkable is that 2013 may turn out to be the finest vintage I have experienced in tasting North Coast varietals over the last 37 years. It's a game-changer in terms of the consistency of quality, the depth of quality, and the across-the-board excellence for so many wines. The wines were tasted the last two weeks of August, with some subsequent smaller tastings at The Wine Advocate offices in September."

"This wine was bottled without filtration which always crafts a wine with more complexity and character. Silky and balanced on entry but one quickly feels the impact of the complexity on the mid-palate. Rich without being over the top, the wine boasts black cherry, currant and just a splash of sweet oak on the finish. By the way, the 2013 vintage is being hailed by Robert Parker as the best in 37 years."

Winery Notes:

"This wine was crafted by Forgotten Barrel Winery a project based in Calistoga that specializes in getting finished high end wines from big name wineries that are nervous about having too much supply in a tight market. This 2013 Cabernet hails from a winery that sells for $80/bottle."
