Wine & Spirits, 92Pts:
"Sourced mostly from Peay’s Annapolis estate, with a small portion garnered from the nearby Campbell Ranch, this has a coastal purity to its aroma, a clean, violet perfume that’s captivating. Structurally, the wine is taut, the tannins holding a chalky grip even with a day of air. Another year in bottle should help round off its edges; save it for grilled whole sockeye during next autumn’s Pacific salmon run. (Apr 2014)."
IWC, Josh Raynolds, 91Pts:
"Bright ruby-red. Sexy, high-pitched raspberry and cherry scents are complicated by fresh flowers and pungent spices. Silky and sweet on the palate, with an array of red fruit flavors that pick up a cola quality with air. Finishes with very good energy and lift and supple tannins, leaving a candied rose note behind. (May/Jun 2014)."
"The pursuit of aromatic, elegant, red-fruited Pinot noir led us to the chilly edge of the West Sonoma Coast just 4 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Due to our cool, moderate weather we experience quite a long growing season that allows us to pick fruit that is ripe without the encumbrance of too much sugar (and resulting alcohol), yet retains the refreshing acidity and top noted aromatics that make Pinot noir so engaging."
"The 2012 Sonoma Coast Pinot noir comes mainly from our estate vineyard with a few barrels from Campbell vineyard. The Sonoma Coast expresses all of the characteristics of our estate cuvées featuring the red berry, earthy, pine needle aromas you find in Scallop Shelf, Pomarium and Ama.
In the superb 2012 vintage this wine has a level of depth, age-ability and complexity that is quite surprising. Black tea and dried leaf aromas frame a tart strawberry rhubarb nose. The palate shows more youthful characteristics adding primary aromas of black cherry and brown spices. The palate has medium weight and breadth with moderate alcohol and quite good acidity. The fine, silky tannins provide structure for a very long finish. It can be enjoyed now though waiting until 2015 will allow the flavors to temper their exuberance and coalesce. It should drink well for at least a decade (or more) after release."
