The Duke of Bourbon is a family-run retail wine and spirits enterprise established in 1967 in the West San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California. Specializing in personalized service, it offers a hand-picked selection of unique and rare California wines as well as a fine selection of French, Italian and other world-class wines. In 1990, the Duke of Bourbon was chosen as one of the top twelve wine shops in America by Wine Spectator's Market Watch Magazine. Our very own Ron Breitstein and his partner Hendrick Van Leuven are thrilled to announce the release of their first book Wine and Dine, California Fine Wines Matched with Gourmet Recipes. Wine and Dine features 90 outstanding wines from 48 top-notch California wineries each matched with a recipe created by the winemakers, their chefs or top restaurateurs.

Some of the wine and food matches include: Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc matched with Steamed mussels with Garlic and White Wine; Long Vineyards Chardonnay matched with Crayfish and Yellow Tomato Bisque; Schramsberg Cremant matched with Nectarine Tart; Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir, Sanford and Benedict matched with Roast Prime Rib with Au Gratin Potatoes; Duckhorn Merlot matched with Grilled Wild Duck with Ducky's Wild Duck Port Sauce; and Opus One matched with Grilled Lamb and Black Currants.

Most of the recipes come directly from the wineries. Top California restaurateurs, including Piero Selvaggio of Valentino/Primi/Posto, Joachim Splichal of Patina/Pinot, Robert Simos of Bistro 45, Michael McCarty of Michael's, Robert Bell of Chez Melange and Michael Chiarello of Tra Vigne, were kind enough to provide some of their culinary secrets and wisdom.

The book is divided into chapters by varietals and each one is briefly discussed in oenological and historical terms for enhanced appreciation.

Ron Breitstein grew up in the family business, Duke of Bourbon, a top specialty wine shop where he is General Manager. A guest speaker at UCLA Extension wine classes, Ron has had articles published in Beverage Dynamics, and frequently has been quoted in Wine Spectator and Market Watch. He is co-author of the Duke of Bourbon's national Vine-Line newsletter.

Hendrik Van Leuven has been a freelance film and television writer since 1979. Author of the book Touchdown, UCLA: The Complete Account of Bruin Football, he has written for Wines & Vines magazine, and is a member of the Culinary Historians of Southern California. He also teaches English, world civilization and drama at Pasadena High School.
