Chardonnay
Durell Vineyard

93 points,ξRusty Gaffney, The Prince of Pinot

Very fresh nose redolent of lemon curd, nutty oak and salt air. Crisp and bright on the palate with good intensity of lemon, nectarine, pear and honey flavors.

DUNSTAN Wines began in 2005 with the planting of the 8 1/2 acre Ranch House Block. Located at the southern end of the Durell vineyard on an east-facing slope, this site has cool coastal fog in the morning that gives way to warm, breezy afternoons. The well-drained, gravelly soil is more densely planted than other areas of the vineyard which means smaller, more concentrated berries with lots of varietal character.

Durell Vineyard is considered one of the top five vineyards in Sonoma County, as it consistently produces wines of great depth and complexity. Over twenty five wines from Durell have been given a rating of 92+ Points. The rocky soil of Durell Vineyard is derived from volcanic parent material known as basalt, which has a low concentration of magnesium but very rich in minerals, ideal for cultivating premium Chardonnay grapes.

2012 was a classic vintage at Durell with a warm and dry spring allowing our vines to set a nice crop of fruit. Sunny days and warm temperatures over the summer allowed the fruit to ripen beautifully with richness and intensity. Our cold nights and foggy mornings prevented the fruit from becoming overripe while maintaining freshness. Harvest came swiftly towards the middle of September. Approximately 400 cases were bottled in April of 2014.
